Wowee, she can suck on a pacifier! This is only after 2 or 3 short sessions with a occupational therapist! Some people have been wondering about Ellies MRI. She does have some damage to her brain, including her brain stem. The brain stem controls our automatic functions. So that may be why she has trouble with breathing and swallowing, which are automatic for us all. The seizures she has been having do not cause brain damage they are a result of the damage.
The doctors seemed possitive. They thought we would be able to take Ellie home in a couple of weeks, and they said that this past Friday, so that is cool!
The goals for the next while are for Ellies seizures to be controlled, for her to learn to swallow and nurse, and for her to not need any oxygen to breath well.
Some good news, Ellie hasn't had any seizures for more than a day!! Wahoo!! She needs to go for 3 or 4 days without having a seizure before we can check seizures off the list.
The Doctors also said that we won't know what Ellie will really be like until her 2nd birthday.

Oh Gretchen - I can't believe all of this. What a strong girl Ellie is. She is a fighter. I hope she continues to get stronger and you guys will be able to bring her home soon. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.
